1024×768 vs 800×600 - Is 1024px the new standard for Web Design?

Over the last couple years we have gotten mixed responses from our users on whats the right resolution to design a a site around. So I recently went back to figure out once and for all if designing around 800px made sense anymore. It’s not like we keep track of this on a daily basis. As with the new UltraShock and TheFWA most sites now support 1024px format or higher. So is it even worth caring about 800px anymore?

We didn’t have to look too far for evidence, it clearly shown in our Google Analytics reports.

Looks that way. The same goes for my Google Analytics. Not only that the sales for monitors where the highest screen res is 800×600… is practically non-existent.
